History of Damascus Steel:
Damascus Steel was originally a band called Orpheus, formed in 1993 by
Ron Stear (Guitar), Joe Komenda (Bass), Vince Halcomb (Drums), and Alex
Hidalgo (Vocals). We were all in the US ARMY together, and stationed in
Ft. Ritchie, MD.
It began as a metal cover band, performing songs by Metallica, Van
Halen, Dokken and many others. After about two years, Ron, Joe and Alex
left the ARMY and moved to Raleigh, NC. There they started the band
again, with Dave Adkins on drums.
After another year, the name of the band was changed to Damascus Steel.
The year after that, Alex left the band due to his inability to write
original songs. Several month later, Terry Brown joined the band. Within
a few months, all of the Damascus Steel songs had been written and
recorded.
Damascus Steel played live a couple of times, but poor sales, lack of
airplay, and a lack of interest in metal in 1997-1998 led to the breakup
of the band. Although most of the members no longer play in bands, they
still love music, metal and rock and roll.
